EPT Barcelona: day 1a level 6 update

7.15pm: Thorn in the Dragan's foot
British player Paul Solomon is braver or more stupid than most. Messing with Dragan Galic is a terrifying proposition as - stack size and aggressive nature apart - the Croatian looks terrifying from across a table. Short stack Solomon had already baited him once by shoving all-in over one of Galic's raises when the pair tangled over a [Ah] [5s] [10h] flop. Galic bet out 1,700, Solomon just over min-raised to 3,800 and the Croatian banged in an insta-raise to 7,800. Solomon sheepishly folded while Dragan claimed to have 'minimum ace' before reconstructing his 85,500 stack. Solomon is limping along with 13,000. Personally we're going to keep an eye on this one as an explosion will be due if Solomon shoves with rags and outdraws Galic.

Break time! Half the field are on dinner break and the other half are on a 15 minute spin round the casino.

7pm: Yo-yo not J-Lo
This hand has caused more discussions in the press room than any other hand today. PokerStars qualifier David Robinson raised from mid position and was called by Johnny Lodden on the button and a player in the small blind before the flop came [7h][3d][7d]. It was checked to Robinson who continued with a 1,100 bet that only Lodden called. The turn [js] saw Lodden call a 2,200 bet to see the [5h] river. This time Robinson led for 11,000 only to see Lodden bump it up to 33,000. The response from Robinson was to quickly raise to 72,000, a move that seemed to shock the Team Pro. Lodden tanked for a good few minutes before folding leaving himself with around 18,000. Lodden had clearly shown people behind him and then told the table he held [7s][5s] for a rivered full house. He felt Robison could only of had pocket jacks to put in that final raise on the river. Brilliant or barking? You decide.

6.50pm: Thater folds, Goodwin reads
Team PokerStars Pro Katja Thater raises 1,050 from the cut-off and a 5.5k short stack 3-bets to 3,050 leaving himself just a couple of thousand behind. The German pro questioned the strange move, 'Why not all in?' The bumbling answer from her opponent was enough for her to fold and flash AQ.

Marc Goodwin is up to 40,000 which is no mean feat given that the brummie (person from Birmingham, UK) has had his noise firmly planted in Stu Ungar biography The Man Behind the Shades since the first level. Goodwin is normally a loud presence at the table but today we've never seen him so quiet.

6.40pm: Langman going with the Flo-rian
The turn was out giving us a [7h][6d][kd][td] board. Florian Langman was in the big blind and led out for 2,425 and his only opponent in the hand called. The [9h] river came down before Langman led for 8,500 and after some serious consideration the call was made. Langman tabled [ad][jd] for the nut flush and the pot, putting him back over his starting stack, just.

6.30pm: Last (WSOP) woman standing
Leo Margets was the last female player left in the World Series earlier this year where she finished 27th for $352,832. Suffice to say she's not scared of mixing it up with anyone at the tables here in Barcelona. Fearless doesn't necessarily lead to winning pots though and Marcin Horecki swiped away a nice little pile of chips when Margets checked a river to him. Both are a little down on their starting stacks.
